Suppose thomas Jefferson did not purchase the Louisiana Province, what impact would that OF haD on the united states Westward expansion?
If Thomas Jefferson the 3rd President of the United States did not Purchase the Louisiana Province we would not be here today. America would not be the same. For all we know America could still only be those 13 colonies. If Thomas Jefferson did not purchase the Louisiana province we could be speaking French right now because the French most likely would of taken over the United States. Its hard to even suppose what it would be like if he didn't purchase the land. That's just how important the Louisiana Purchase it to History and Western Expansion. The impact not purchasing the land would of had on Western expansion would of been enormous. First, the Americans wouldn't be able to expand westward anymore because the French would still be there. This would cause Jefferson's dream as President to have small independent farms to crumble to the ground with the rest of any westward expansion hopes. After researching the Louisiana Purchase i have realized just how overlooked it is in the way of westward expansion. People don't realize that westward expansion happened because of the Louisiana Purchase. Not the other way around. People were able to expand westward and achieve that dream of the Manifest Destiny because of the Louisiana Purchase. Everything important western expansion event that happened after the Louisiana Purchase was only able to happen because of the 15 million dollar land grant made by Jefferson. This includes the California Gold Rush, Indian Removal Act, and even the land gained in the War with Mexico. Everything involving Western expansion happened because of the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase was one of the greatest events in American History.
